    Cusco

    Cusco City

While most travelers are likely to use the city as a launching point for Machu Picchu, Cusco is well-worth a visit in itself. Take some time to explore this amazing city and the layers of history will peal of in front of your eyes. Take a city tour, horse bike riding or walking tour in Cusco and wander inside local markets, narrow cobblestone streets hugged by old colonial buildings and past ancient stone walls pieced together by the hands of Inca stone masters.

The mail square bustling Plaza de Armas is bordered by the Cusco Cathedral, restaurants that dish up delicious authentic food, and numerous cafes. Among many great things about the city, you’ll see places such as Sacsayhuaman – the most iconic Inca center peace in Cusco, as well as Qoricancha, the Sun Temple. There are many other attractions that will captivate you with their uniqueness, so make sure to explore the city before you ramble into the Peruvian wilderness.

    The Astonishing Sacred Valley

    The Sacred Valley

The Sacred Valley of the Incas is simply timeless. The site is simultaneously working hard to protect its heritage whilst promoting its native culture, roots, customs, and history. Since the beginning of the Inca empire, the valley has been a key region in terms of agricultural methods that are still in use today. Nowadays, the Sacred Valley of the Incas is home to Andean villages.

You can book a one-day trip to explore El Valle Sagrado (the Sacred Valley) top attractions. However, there is so much to take in! To appreciate the grandeur and sophistication of the Inca civilization, you should plan at least a two-day visit.

    The Astonishing Sacred Valley

    Extraordinary Machu Picchu

The Highlight of Cusco Vacation Packages: Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is undeniably South America’s and Peru’s premier tourist attraction. A few visitors to the country will fail to make their way to the hilltop’s ruins of the ‘Lost City of the Incas’. Almost everyone has seen pictures of the enigmatic ruins nestling on their perch on top of a mountain, surrounded by swirling wisps of clouds.

However, not everyone is so familiar with not-to-be-missed sights within the complex. Booking some of our Cusco tours is a great opportunity to visit the ruins within Machu Picchu. Moreover, for a comprehensive Machu Picchu experience, our Cusco vacation packages include the hikes to Huayna Picchu and Montaña Machu Picchu.

These tours are in high demand, though. Booking in advance is recommended in order to secure your spaces to enter Machu Picchu.

  • Frequently asked questions

Find below brief information about the questions our visitors ask most frequently. If you still don’t find the answer you’re looking for, please send us an email to contact@riverexplorers.com

Will I be affected by altitude sickness?

Will I be affected by altitude sickness?

What some may not know about Cusco is that this city is incredibly high in altitude (3399 meters in elevation). This kind of altitude can seriously mess up with your physical state. However, there is no way to predict altitude sickness; you may not even get it. Physical fitness, age, and gender have no bearing on whether you will get altitude sickness or not. Even if you do, our tours, hotels, and transportation are equipped with oxygen balloons in case of emergency. We recommend adjusting to the altitude of at least 2 to 3 days prior to any hike or active Cusco tours.

    What is the accommodation like?

Traveling with us is a little bit different. We only work with hotels that have high reviews score on TripAdvisor and Booking.com. We try to provide travelers with an authentic experience. The most common hotel category in our Cusco tours includes 3-star hotels.

    What is included

Camping with us is a fun and enjoyable experience. In secluded areas away from tourist crowds, we use the best available accommodations that sometimes includes guest housing. Our camping gear includes all the necessary equipment for a comfortable stay. We provide everything from 5 cm – 2 inches sleeping pads to minus 20 degrees sleeping bags with kitchen and dinners tents included.

Is there a discount for school groups?

Yes, there is. Depending on the number of visitors in your group, you can get a 10 to 20 percent discount.

Are the tour packages more expensive for couples?

Absolutely not, we keep the price the same for couples and for group tours alike. However, for the hotel category upgrade, extra fees apply.

    Should I get travel insurance?

We highly recommend getting travel insurance before your trip departure. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of travel insurance. As we all know, “life happens,” especially to travelers! Whatever the circumstances, it is important that you are prepared in case you need to unexpectedly change your travel plans.

What is internet access like in Cusco?

The Internet can be accessed at the hotels and internet cafes across the Cusco region but is quite limited in rural and remote areas.

    Are transfers included?

Hotel pickup before and drop off after the tours are included in all our activities. Transfer to and from the airport, bus or train stations not described in our tour itineraries are not included but can easily be arranged.
