We will pick you up from your hotel at 8 am and drive towards the Sacred Valley for a full guided tour. The Sacred Valley offers stunning Andean mountains views, winding roads and mind boggling Inca architecture. This valley runs parallel to the Urubamba River or Wilkamayu River (Sacred River). The Incas loved the valley for many of the same reasons today’s tourists and local residents do; for its special natural beauty and geographical and climatic qualities. You will visit Ollantaytambo and Pisaq.
The complex of Pisac lies on top of a hill at the entrance to the valley. The ruins are separated along the ridge into four groups: Pisaqa, Intihuatana, Qallaqasa and Kinchiracay. The Intihuatana (The Temple of the Sun), is the focus, that served as an astronomical function. Q’allaqasa, which is built onto a natural hill and overlooks the valley, is known as the citadel. After this tour you’ll visit Pisaq market that is a wonderful open-air market where you can buy Peruvian handicrafts, clothing and souvenirs. We will get back in the bus and drive through picturesque towns like La May, Qoya, Calca and then stop at Urubamba to have lunch in one of the best restaurants of the Valley. Here you can try different typical dishes from the area. After lunch we drive for 30 minutes more to Ollantaytambo.
Ollantaytambo is the last complex in the Sacred Valley. Many historians say that Ollantaytambo was built by the Inca Emperor Pachacuti around 1440 AD and served as a temple and a fortress. This complex is a wonder of architecture and engineering. There are many questions regarding the construction of this Inca site and one of the most asked question is in regards to the transportation of huge sized blocks of stone that were used to build this complex. According to archaeologist these rocks were brought to Ollantaytambo from a mountain located some kilometers away across the Urubamba river. How the Incas did this, still remains a question mark.
After this tour you will have time to relax and enjoy the town.
Overnight at Ollantaytambo.
