  • Trip Itinerary

Pre-trip information will be given by your guide at your hotel the day before your tour departure.

Day 1: Moray – Salineras – Aguas Calientes

Day 1: Cusco – Biking Maras, Moray and Salineras – Aguas Calientes

At 8 AM, your tour guide and our transportation will meet you directly in the lobby of your hotel. It takes one-hour drive to Maras, where your guides will meet with you to discuss your trip. After everyone feels comfortable on their bikes and with the direction we are headed, we begin our ride with a nice mountain bike on a well-maintained dirt road, all the while learning about the unique environment of the Moray Complex.

Previously, Moray was an Inca agricultural complex, but no one really knows the exact purpose of this site. Currently, the most acceptable theory is that they used it as an agricultural research center. The temperatures between terraces can vary by more than 20 degrees, so make sure that you dress appropriately. After the guided tour, we will have lunch with a view of the Moray Complex and the mountain range of the Sacred Valley.

After that, our second section of the ride starts with a breathtaking circuit of the Salineras salt mines. There are thousands upon thousands of small ponds carved into the mountains, dating back to the Chanapata culture between AD 200 and AD 900. It has consistently been in use.

For active people, this is absolutely the best way to see the area. In combination with the rafting in the rainforest and the hike of Machu Picchu complex, it is a unique and exciting way to learn about the most famous places in Peru.

At the end of the bike, the private van will take us to the Ollantaytambo train station to catch a train to Aguas Calientes, where we will go to our outstanding hotel.

Your guide will go through a safety orientation about commands and other safety instructions before jumping into the river – if you do not have experience, it is best to listen. Rafting in the Urubamba rainforest begins at the end of a massive stone wall of Santa Teresa Gorge and flows into the Amazon Jungle; this section is interrupted by great white-water rapids with calm water sections in between.
