After breakfast the Peru vacation tour start. Passing Qorao, Huancalle and Taray (small Andean villages built high in the mountains of Cusco), we will arrive at the panoramic view point of the Sacred Valley, which is a perfect place to enjoy astonishing vistas and take pictures. The valley is surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks: Pitusiray, Sahuasiray, Veronica and Chicon, which are located between 5,000 and 6,500 meters above sea level (16,404 – 19,685 ft). The Urubamba River transverses this valley and was the principal source of water for agricultural purposes during the time of the Incas.
The complex of Pisaq is the first place to visit in our circuite. This place lies atop a hill at the entrance to the valley. The ruins are separated along the ridge into four groups: Pisaqa, Intihuatana, Qallaqasa and Kinchiracay, including a number of baths and temples. Intihuatana (The Temple of the Sun) is the focus, suggesting that it served an astronomical function.
The hillside is lined with agricultural terraces constructed by the Incas and still in use today. These terraces were created by hand. Pisaq was to have controlled a route that connected the Inca Empire with the border of the rain forest.
After this tour, we will go back to Pisaq town, where we will make a stop at the popular Pisaq market. Here you’ll find traditional handicrafts and souvenirs.
Around 11 or 12, we will drive towards Ollantaytambo an impressive site that can not be forgotten in the Peru vacations tour. On the way we’ll stop to have a buffet lunch in one of the best restaurants of the valley. After lunch we continue driving to Ollantaytambo. This town was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacutec, who conquered the region and built the town with many terraces, temples, storehouses, quarries, baths and defensive structures. Ollantaytambo served as a fortress for Manco Inca, the famous leader of the Incan resistance against the Spaniards and their descendants.
Ollantaytambo town is an Incan living city and the people live in many of the very houses that were used in the past by our ancestors.
