  • Tambopata River rafting- Itinerary

Day 1: Juliaca – Putina punku

This trip usually starts in Juliaca, but we can organize transfers if you are in Lima or any other place in Peru. This adventure begins at 8 am. where we depart from Juliaca city. This ride will take us high up to the Andes (15,700 feet, 4785 m), passing llama herds, glaciers and spectacular mountain ranges. We begin to descend through small Pre-Inca sites Cuyo-Cuyo to the Amazon cloud forest. From here we drop deeper into the jungle to finally arrive to San Juan de Loro-Putina Punku, depending on the weather, road conditions or any unexpected situations, we can continue on to Curva Alegre (the beginning of the Tambopata River rafting) and overnight in the side of the river; or stay at Putina Punku to camp or stay in a basic accommodation facilitate.

    Meals included: Lunch and dinner.

Accommodations: Camping or basic house or hostel.

Day 2: Curva Alegre – First camp

Hot drinks including fresh coffee are served early morning together with a nice hearty breakfast. After breakfast, everyone will help to break camp and once the luggage boat is fully loaded, your tour leader will give you a briefing about commands and safety instructions, followed by practice in the river. Only once the passengers have a good working knowledge of the commands and of safety, the Tambopata River rafting tour adventure begins.

Today’s rapids are very easy and is a good opportunity to try our inflatable one-person kayaks. Lunch will be served at the riverside. The afternoon rafting is accompanied by magnificent views of the mountain forest and the last jungle villages until arrival to the next camp. Another nice evening begins with a tasty dinner prepared by your guides, while enjoying good conversations, the guides’ river tales and the sky full of stars.

Meals included: Breakfast – lunch and dinner.

    Accommodations: Camping.

    Day 3 to 8

The Tambopata river changes as we immerse deep into the Jungle. During the first days, the river is narrow with nice easy rapids. The combination of tributaries transforms the river  as we descend gradually to a more carved, steep canyon. As an extra volume of water is added into the river, the speed of water streams raise downstream. These sections of your Tambopata River rafting are filled with thrilling easy to moderate Level III and IV white water rapids

After all these exciting sections of rapids, the Tambopata River relaxes, floating silently through the jungle. This is a good opportunity to see the variety of life that the Amazon provides. We paddle quietly to observe the exotic jungle ecosystem and to spot capibaras, monkeys, macaws, tapirs, caimans, giant otters and, with luck, jaguars.

The boats will navigate near the river sides and its tributaries, disembarking for fishing or hikes into the jungle, allowing us to explore the surroundings.

For lunches and dinners, our guides will choose special spots. We serve fish barbecues, chicken, beef sandwiches buffets, Mexican, pastas, rice, potatoes etc.

Meals included: Breakfasts – lunches and dinners.

    Accommodations: Camping.

    Day 9

After some exciting Tambopata River rafting days, the river expands even more at the junction of the Tabara River where a motor boat will be ready to take us to the the Tambopata Research Center to sleep for one night.

Meals included: Breakfasts – lunches and dinners.

    Accommodations: Camping.

    Day 10

Today we wake up very early to see an extraordinary spectacle of hundreds of macaws, parrots and parakeets feasting on the minerals contained in the cliff wall. Thereafter, our motor boat will transfer you to a loge where we can enjoy a nice refreshing shower, a comfortable bed, fresh food and cold beer and with that celebrate an amazing trip.
