It begins in the remarkable location of the Incan City of Gold Paititi, and ends at the wonderous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu high in the Andes. The mighty river takes you from the Snow-crowned Andes to the beautiful and exotic Amazon jungle. The sights on the journey down the river are amazing you can see palm tree-size ferns, gigantic cacti, giant otters, tiny monkeys, swarms of butterflies, and rainbow-colored Macaws.
This recently opened river had dozens of class 3 and 4 rapids, that are suitable for paddle rafting and inflatable kayaking. On this journey you can wonder at two of South America’s marvels, the Pongo Mainique Canyon and Machu Picchu. In terms of the ecology, local culture, heritage, history, weather, views and whitewater, this Peruvian journey is perhaps the finest river-based adventure travel in the world. This river’s conditions are pleasant with few insects, swimming pool temperature water, days in the low eighties and nights in the, pleasant sixties.
